This coffee grinder is handmade in South Africa from Chamfuta (Afzelia quanzensis) wood.

Each grinder is engraved with the species name on the bottom side.

Every grinder is unique as it is turned from natural wood that each has it own characteristics. Thus, each grinder may differ from the product photo.

Coffee grinder – Chamfuta – about the wood:

  • Chamfuta is native to southern Africa.
  • The hardwood used to create the Oldroot coffee grinders is sourced from dead and fallen trees in the forest, making use of a sustainable source in an ethical way.
  • The wood is cut to size and air dried for up to 3 years until ready to be turned.
  • Chamfua is a golden tobacco colour.

 

About the mechanism:

  • The Crushgrind barista mechanism for coffee is conical burr grinders, which give a better consistency of the grind.
  • The consistency of the grind or the particle size distribution impacts the flavour and bitterness of the coffee.
