Leadwood (Combretum imberbe) is one of the largest trees in Africa.
The heartwood is dark in colour and extremely hard, heavy and durable. Clearly demarcated sapwood is a pale yellow.
The wood is impermeable to termites and is one of the few wood species that sinks when put into a body of water.
